Beatdown on the Potomac

Feb. 13, 2008

Barack Obama blew out Hillary Clinton last night in the Virginia and Maryland Primaries, as well as in Washington DC winning each with at least a 20% margin. He is now 8-0 in the last eight primaries and his wins have no even been close. He has been crushing Hillary Clinton 2-1 or 3-1 in votes in many cases and has solidified himself as the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination by taking over the popular vote and overall delegate lead, even when including committed superdelegates.

Things are about to change for Obama, partly because Republicans, who have been just sitting on their hands admiring the beating he has been laying down on Clinton, now are going to suddenly realize they have a big problem on their hands, an opponent that can’t seem to be pinned down and that is generated excitement not seen in America in 50 years or more.

This week expect the Republicans come out in full force, attacking Obama’s experience from all angles. Partly because they need to get a head of steam of their old tried and true method of ‘tell a lie enough and people will believe it’ method, and partly because they’re going to start to realize they may not be able to beat him at all. They are going to realize if they want to win the Presidency, they might need Hillary Clinton to beat him. Republican have seen the ease in which he has crushed her this week. They may hate her like no other, but you better imagine they all know exactly how powerful the Clintons are–afterall Bill is the only one thats ever gotten the best of them–and the swiftness of Obama’s recent victories must absolutley scare them shitless. Rush Limbaugh’s joke about hosting Hillary Clinton fundraisers is going to get a lot less laughs and a lot more Republicans at least taking it half seriously.

Possible Republican help aside, Hillary has no message, no money, no wins in two weeks, and it’s starting to look like no chance for the nomination. She has one last chance, she has to win Texas, Pennsylvania, and Ohio, all three and by significant margins, or it will be all over.
