Who’s in the Mood for Some Drivel?

Feb. 18, 2008

In my short time here at PSA I’ve had the distinct opportunity to field a spectacular e-mail from an individual who apparently had some problems with my support of Congressman Ron Paul. This e-mail was received, and responded to, at a time before Super Tuesday and before I had turned some support (in a heavily qualified manner) in favor of Barack Obama. Enjoy.

Hey Mike:

He is a Democrat! No Republican my friend. He is a libetarian, social, liberal who pretends to be a Republican. He is a fraud in other words.

Also, FYI: Obama is as much Christian American as Christ is a “Musllim.” This young man is a counterfeit full of hot air and persuavise speech with no real sollutions to the fight in Iraq and/or track record due to lack of experience anywhere in his policitcal career. Give him about 3-5 more years. Plus the fact that he is black and many KKK members and White Supremist may have issues about that. I like him as a person and wish him no harm – but Colin Powell pulled out of running for President if you remember and his wife greatly encouraged him to due to the “fear factor” of his life being taken by some stupid radical white racist.

Overall Dem’s have no solutions to anything really except raising taxes and promoting their extreme Bush-basing liberal agenda.

Democratic party not the same as it was 20-30 yrs ago – all mainly liberals now who hate Bush, hate America and hate the U.S. Military. U.S. Military wil not support Obama mainly due to the FACT that he will not even salute the American Flag and/or wear the American Flag Lapel Pin on his jacket to show that he supports our troops! What kind of “Commander-In-Chief” is that?

A few days after coming to terms with the fact that a man sat down and typed that to me… I responded.

Well Robert,

Ron Paul is not a Democrat. Libertarianism and Liberalism are nowhere near the same today and if you have that dichotomy confused than this discussion can’t continue much further; not logically anyway.

Ron Paul supports limited government and the constitution. There is nothing “social” about keeping the government from encroaching on American liberties and that is the message that is resonating with rational voters who see this as a return to what America stands for.

I don’t understand your arguments here about Obama as that I do not support him and have no interest in supporting him. Your discussion of the KKK and fear have little relevance in a discussion about Ron Paul – nevermind the election as a whole.

You need to be very careful about calling a man like Ron Paul a fraud because you risk perpetuating falsehoods based on your perception of what a Republican needs to be. Your discussion of the duality between Democrats and Republicans also reveals a tacit subscription to the flaws of the two party system as well.

I’d encourage you to spend more time familiarizing yourself with the views of Congressman Paul because you seem to be an individual who is passionate about the American political process and I am confident you will find that government is not the answer to every problem and that civil liberties need to be protected – a task that Ron Paul is dedicated to doing. He doesn’t have a liberal agenda, nor does he use the same empty, dramatic, rhetoric that you seem to deplore from a candidate such as Obama.

Best,

Mike

One thing… I know I said “passionate” in, hindsight I should have said ignorant, but I was trying to represent Ron Paul support in a less insane and obnoxious manner than the most vocal members holding Ron Paul signs.

So. Robert. It’s been a month since i’ve heard from you and I am interested in your response.
