The ABC Debate, Sponsered by The National Enquirer

April 17, 2008

I woke up early this morning to write a post about how embarrassing ABC’s debate was last night, thinking was the media would follow ABC’s lead and write about it like it belonged on the shelves of the supermarket tabloid section. Full of questions about the ‘bitter’ debate, Rev. Wright, Bosnia, Bill Ayers, and flag lapel pins, it literally took FIFTY MINUTES to get an actual policy question. I mean its not like there’s two wars, a housing crisis, and a recession going on or anything. Thankfully instead of taking the bait and leading with idiotic commentary on vague personal associations or playing the ‘who’s more patriotic game,’ at least some people have noticed the disgusting performace of ABC News.

On the Huffington Post, it’s being called the “worst. debate. ever” and “a shameful night for the US media,” and “an unmitigated travesty.” The Washington Post says, “In Pa. Debate, The Clear Lose Is ABC

The ABC.com news story on the debate has generated more than 12000 comments and Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopolous were even heckled by the crowd after the debate.

As I was taking notes during the proceedings I kept jotting down the time, and as the clock past the forty five minute mark, I literally wrote, “What is going on here!?’ In the peak of ridiculousness, George asks Obama, seemingly trying to meld two superficial problems into one, “Does Rev. Wright love America as much as you do?” What the fuck is that?? What does that even mean? I can’t figure it out. And what kind of answer was Stephanopolous
expecting?

But enough of me, the comments on ABC.com is where the real criticism and comedy is, as every one of them rips ABC a new asshole, often in hilarious ways.
