Remember this disturbing sequence in Borat?
In probably the most ridiculous scene in a movie filled with ridiculousness, Borat is “saved” by members of a Pentecostal church somewhere in the Deep South.
This is the same type of church that Sarah Palin belongs to.
Unfortunately, there is no Youtube video so everyone can really appreciate the complete insanity of these people, but just imagine these church members–among other crazy shit–spontaneously yelling incoherent babble, or as they call it “speaking in tongues.” They claim it is God’s way of speaking through them. This is the norm for Pentecostals in Palin’s church, as her minister explains to Time Magazine:
Kalnins guessed that about half of the people in his church have the gift of tongues. He has it himself, he says, though he rarely demonstrates it. “It’s not meant to be shown off,” he said. “It’s not like flexing muscles. I received the gift in college, and it transformed my life.” It’s not something like from the “remote parts of the jungle,” he adds: It’s a decision.
Sadly, the article does not say whether Palin partakes in the speaking of tongues herself (nor does it mention the handling poisionous snakes, which Pentecostals are also known to do). We can only hope one day a video surfaces.

That scene from Borat is at a United Pentecostal church meeting in Jackson, MS. Well between Jackson and Raymond, MS. I used to go to a United Pentecostal Church in Mississippi and that one in particular for summer church camps when I was much younger. When I started asking questions about the UPC belief system without any real answers from members, I left Christianity altogether. I think a lot of them mean well, but it is alot of brainwashing as far as I am concerned. No movies, television, secular music, makeup, or jewelry (including wedding bands) are allowed. Women are to not cut or color their hair and never wear “men’s clothing” aka always skirts and dresses. Men are not to wear shorts and that’s about it. Being gay is another big no-no which was part of my problem. I used to have a thing for Jason Dillon, the preacher who leads Borat to the altar for prayer.
At any rate, I feel sorry for the people in that movie. Part of it is the fact that I recognize some of the faces there. Another part is I know how genuinely they seem to believe in all of that stuff. I felt it was completely disrespectful of Sasha to have handled a religious meeting like that. Especially considering that they aren’t supposed to watch movies and television and can therefore not see, according to their church law, the spectacle he made of them. At least Bill Maher went head-on and without any deception against religion in Religulous. But, I guess none of this is the point of this post.
Palin is insane. I thought she looked a little sketchy from the beginning. After reading up on her, I was not a fan. After finding out her religious affiliation, my mind was completely made up about her. I had enough fire and brimstone as a child and have dealt with enough backwards religion in politics for the last eight years to want an EXTREME conservative religion gaining any ground politically. Borat should have not knocked on the snake pit glass and Palin needs to not come out of the snakepit. Luckily that is not something that I have to worry about now.
Anyway, just thought I’d let you know where that Borat church is.
Wrong. Your assertion that Sarah Palin is of the same assembly as the church denomination in the Borat movie is false. The church in the Borat movie is of the United Pentecostal Church International(UPCI) assembly, which is modalistic and believes in baptism invoked by the name of Jesus. Sarah Palin’s Church is an Assemblies of God Pentecostal church that is trinitarian and believes in baptism invoked by the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
