STOCKHOLM — Actor Stellan Skarsgard says he’s no big fan of Dan Brown’s writing and accepted a role in “Angels & Demons” only after reading the script based on Brown’s book.

“I think Dan Brown is a terribly bad writer, but he has cliffhangers after every chapter which makes you continue reading,” Skarsgard told Swedish broadcaster SVT.

“It’s like eating peanuts at a bar. You don’t like them, but you keep on eating them anyway,” he said.

The Swedish actor, who plays the head of the Pope’s Swiss guard in the movie, said director Ron Howard’s script was significantly different from the book.

He’s still upset that his Do The Right Thing movie wasn’t even considered for an Oscar the year Driving Miss Daisy claimed Best Film.

He adds, “Nobody is watching motherfucking Driving Miss Daisy today. Do The Right Thing is being taught in classes at major universities and high schools all over the world. That’s how you’re supposed to test art. Does the work stand up?”

I’m adding that to my list of how movies should be evaluated. It’s right along side “Movies are only as good as their soundtracks.” A criterion that Lee also passes with flying colors, by the way.

Best Film

JUNO I know it’s a predictable pick for the young, hip, enlightened blogger [like myself ], but it’s nonetheless one of the best films I’ve seen in a good while. Fab acting, even fab-er script, and a Fat Man-sized hit to Jason Reitman’s Arsenal of Awesomeness.

Best Album

IN RAINBOWS – Radiohead. It was a close race with Alicia Keys’s AS I AM, but in the end I had to pick the aural-gasm that is IN RAINBOWS. This album even beats out KID A, my previous fave from Thom Yorke & co. Plus, props for the cool way they distributed it.

Worst Thing To Happen on the Internet

FACEBOOK APPLICATIONS with the exception of Graffiti, my personal fave, no, I do not want to play Jetman or Speed Racer or get bitten by a vampire or pretend that I am a zombie. Seriously. Close Second: Google buying Youtube. Thanks a lot. Now they’re actually paying attention to those pesky copyright laws.
